Every week there are regular markets all around Prague, and special pop ups to look forward to. The Náplavka market by the river, open Saturdays 8am-2pm, is by far the richest choice for food, with up to 90 stands where you can choose from Czech, Mediterranean, Balkan, Mexican, Indonesian, Vietnamese, Indian, and more.

in Praha 7 is open Saturday, 8:30am-1:30pm in the spring and has a wide selection of local and wholesome fruit, vegetables, dairy products, gifts, and crafts. It’s a good excuse for a wander on a sunny Saturday, and you might pick up some tasty treats for your dinner!

also in Prague 7 is a big complex which used to be a meat factory. It has been transformed into a market and space with a , , restaurants, and stores. 

Live a bit further away from the center and want something with a local flair? The hosts collections of irises, peonies, daylilies and snowdrops for those flower enthusiasts.

It wouldn’t be a Prague summer without beer and sharing a drink among friends! Here are some beer gardens you shouldn’t miss!

Swimming

When it begins to get really hot, don’t fear the river! While it might look unappealing in the centre, there are lots of places where locals swim and enjoy a refreshing activity—like boating, rafting, or surfing.

Stvanice island is a great spot for swimming where the water is surprisingly cold and refreshing on a hot day and there are grassy areas to lounge at—of course there is also a beer garden nearby. Here you can also get your surf on or white water raft in the Vltava at .

Rent a kayak at the near Náplavka or a at Žluté lázně for only 250czk per hour. There are also fun if you want to be closer to the center and enjoy the architecture from the water—though these are more pricey.

If you don’t fancy the river, try one of Prague’s outdoor swimming pools: nebo with student discounts and a grassy lounging area by the pool.

A breath of fresh air and fun in the sun is the perfect way to spend the weekend de-stressing or even your summer break in Prague!

has the advantage of being just a train-ride away with unique castles, caves, hot springs, folk architecture, and beautiful wilderness. There are many direct trains only 5 hours long to Bratislava from Prague, making it a good starting point to explore Slovakia.

Enjoy Bratislava’s old center, castle, and great food. Then, hop on another train north to one of Slovakia’s the national park Veľká Fatra—passing through Trencín located in a valley with the third most fortified castle in Slovakia and Žilina where three rivers converge along the way.

If you are looking for adventure and affordable places off the beaten path, Slovakia is for you.

Looking for culture and history? Also just a short train ride away from Prague, Vienna has got you covered with tens of museums highlighting everything from famous composers to art and even . It will give you the feeling that you can get lost and disappear into the art and architecture—in a good way.

Austria boasts more than big cities, though. Take a round-about way back to Prague through cities like Linz with breathtaking mountain and monument views. While not as affordable as Slovakia, Austria offers collections of art and culture not seen elsewhere.

For food, nightlife, and architecture, Hungary takes the cake. Known to be affordable and fun, Budapest is named in the in the world. It boasts 7 restaurants. Not looking for a fancy meal? Want to get out of the city and explore? is a preserved Palóc settlement and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. While a little more difficult to get to—transfering a few buses—it is like traveling back in time to a medieval village. Easier to get to (even by bike) though a bit more touristy is Szentendre, an aesthetic city with galleries and cobblestone streets.

If you want affordable, beautiful, and versatile, Hungary is for you.

Poland is a must see for all students studying in Prague. It is not only close, but has a vibrant cultural scene full of important history. is especially important for students to see first hand the history at Wawel Castle and the nearby Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum.

Poland is another country where many cities are akin to Prague with ancient squares, cobblestone streets, and beautiful churches. Visit Warsaw for interactive museums, a diverse culinary scene, the UNESCO-listed old town square, the safety and walkability. Interested in architecture, travel a bit further to Poznań for Renaissance-style buildings in pastel colours.

Tato oslava spojuje to, co všichni Češi milují: jídlo, pití a společně strávený čas. Restaurace po celé zemi budou mít na svém jídelním lístku husu jako hvězdu svatomartinské show. Jak ale tato tradice vznikla?

Svatý Martin z Tours byl římský voják z dnešního Maďarska. Byl kanonizován a proslul svým soucitem a štědrostí - proslul tím, že rozřízl svůj plášť napůl, aby se podělil s mrznoucím žebrákem. Den, kdy se slaví, tradičně připadá na dobu po žních, kdy se slaví svátky a začínají přípravy na Vánoce.

A teď k té huse: ta pochází ze staré legendy, kdy se Martin, ukrytý mezi hejnem hus, chtěl vyhnout tomu, aby se stal novým biskupem. Jejich hlasité troubení však cizince prozradilo a upevnilo jeho spojení s husami. Kromě toho, protože se jednalo o období, kdy si zemědělci díky úrodě odnášeli domů více peněz, bylo pojídání masa - v tehdejším typickém jídelníčku vzácného - způsobem oslavy.

V každé restauraci vás čeká pomalu pečená husa s knedlíky a zelím, ale každý podnik má něco svého. K jídlu se podává také vlastní svatomartinské víno, první víno z poslední sklizně.

Přesně v 11:11 11 11. listopadu vinaři a nadšenci po celé zemi odšpuntují první láhev vína, takže se připravte na láhev, kterou v tomto období najdete ve většině obchodů s potravinami. Můžete očekávat svěží a lehce perlivou chuť s nižším obsahem alkoholu.

Pivní zahrady jsou kulturním fenoménem a zima se nezalekne ani pití studeného, i když se přenášejí dovnitř nebo pod tepelnou lampu.

Bakalářské studium v oboru Studie výtvarného umění: Ateliérová a kurátorská studia zaměření rozšiřuje teoretický základ oboru Studia výtvarného umění a nabízí studentům užší interakci s tvůrčími a manažerskými aspekty světa umění. Program vyučují různorodí učitelé z řad umělců, akademiků a profesionálů působících na místní i mezinárodní umělecké scéně. Studenti nejprve rozvíjejí dovednosti v tradičních uměleckých žánrech kresby a malby v kombinaci s novými mediálními formami, které mohou později uplatnit při správě sbírek a navrhování výstavních prostor.

Absolvent ročníku 2022 a správce umělecké sbírky Colloredo-Mansfeld Maximillian Colloredo-Mansfeld zdůraznil pozitivní vliv pedagogického stylu AAU na svou kariéru:

"Velmi mi pomohl důraz na zapojení do reálného světa a malé počty studentů ve třídě, což podpořilo úzké kontakty s profesionály v oblasti umění a solidní teoretický základ. Toto jedinečné prostředí mě inspirovalo v mé kariéře a umožnilo mi založit startup, který využívá umělou inteligenci k tomu, aby pomáhal soukromým sběratelům inventarizovat jejich umělecká díla a zefektivnit procesy, jako jsou půjčování uměleckých děl, čímž podporuje větší kulturní výměnu." - Colloredo-Mansfeld

Colloredo-Mansfeld byl fascinován tím, jak lidé vnímají čas a historii, a svůj závěrečný kurátorský projekt věnoval tomuto konceptu: odklon od lineárního způsobu myšlení a konceptuálnější přístup k vystavování sbírek, které zahrnují různé styly. Tuto myšlenku ztělesnila skupinová výstava s umělci Tomášem Kurečkou, Štefanem Tóthem, Terezou Zelenkovou, Martinem Pondělíčkem, Šárkou Koudelovou, Danou Sahánkovou a Romanem Štětinou. Colloredo-Mansfeldová zjistila, že umístění starších děl vedle děl současných je otevírá nové kritice a/nebo obdivu.

"Už neplatí, že se epochy rozdělují do různých místností, protože se tím nevytváří vztah mezi divákem a uměleckým dílem," řekl Colloredo-Mansfeld. "Kontrast pomohl vyvolat otázky o tom, jak vnímáme historii a jak může současné umění nabídnout nové způsoby přemýšlení o minulosti."

Colloredo-Mansfledův současný projekt spočívá v péči o rodinnou sbírku umění a v budování firmy na digitalizaci uměleckých sbírek s názvem Kollektor, jejímž cílem je zpřístupnit soukromé sbírky veřejnosti.

Bakalářské studium v oboru Visual Art Studies přednáší různorodý profesorský sbor složený z umělců, akademiků a profesionálů působících na místní i mezinárodní umělecké scéně. Program nabízí jedinečnou syntézu dějin umění, kurátorských studií a ateliérového umění, čímž vytváří pevné základy teorie a praxe výtvarného umění. Studenti rozvíjejí dovednosti v tradičních uměleckých žánrech kresby a malby v kombinaci s novými médii, fotografií a filmem. Při odchodu budou absolventi znát a chápat celé spektrum umělecké tvorby od teorie po praxi.

Absolventka ročníku 2024 Anna Cooková je příkladem silného portfolia, které si studenti mohou na AAU vytvořit:

Cook se inspiruje světem přírody a jeho prolínáním a soužitím s lidským světem i náboženstvím. Její závěrečný projekt na AAU se zabýval knihou Zjevení, poslední částí Bible, kde je předpovězen Armagedon a konečné zničení Země. Cooková ve svém díle zkoumala rozporuplné pocity, které má s vlastní vírou, a skutečnost, že "někteří křesťané mají pocit, že druhý příchod bude předcházet ekologické katastrofě, což vede k tomu, že jim chybí naléhavost potřebná k řešení ekologických problémů".

Co je potřeba k tomu, abyste vyprávěli poutavý příběh jen s kamerou, nápadem a novinářskou zvědavostí? V Vyprávění videí na Anglo-americké univerzitě stráví studenti Fakulty humanitních a společenských věd celý semestr tím, že na tuto otázku odpovídají nikoli slovy, ale filmem.

Používání poloprofesionálních digitálních zrcadlovek, bezdrátového zvukového zařízení a technik převzatých z předních médií, které vyučuje náš vynikající lektor: Bjorn Steinz. Tento blog představuje jejich závěrečné projekty: originální krátké neherní filmy, které jejich objektivem zkoumají skutečné lidi, skutečná místa a skutečné problémy.

Než se studenti pustí do nahrávání, seznámí se s teorií a řemeslem videožurnalistiky. Na týdenních přednáškách se seznámí s technickými základy, jako je osvětlení, rámování, zvuk, střih, a to spolu se silnými příklady z oceňovaných médií. Každý týden navazuje na předchozí a kombinuje úkoly zaměřené na rozvoj dovedností se zpětnou vazbou ve třídě, která studenty nutí zlepšovat se, přizpůsobovat se a růst.

Na rozdíl od mnoha mediálních kurzů, chytré telefony nejsou povoleny. Proč? Protože tento kurz je o tom, jak se naučit vyprávět příběhy pomocí profesionálnějších nástrojů, a ne jen pomocí chytrého telefonu (který dnes používá každý). Chytrý telefon může být platným nástrojem, ale studenti musí pochopit, jak vyprávět vizuální příběh, který jde dál než jen ke stisknutí tlačítka nahrávání. Zaměřují se na takové, které se používají ve skutečných zpravodajských redakcích a při tvorbě dokumentárních filmů. Pro mnoho studentů je to první práce s digitální zrcadlovkou, přesto na konci semestru vytvářejí díla hodná zveřejnění.

Druhá polovina semestru je věnována závěrečným projektům studentů, čtyřminutovým nehraným filmům, z nichž každý vypráví jedinečný příběh. Studenti jsou zodpovědní za vše od prvního nápadu až po finální střih: natáčení, střih, rozhovory a vylepšování. V polovině semestru předloží hrubé sestřihy, získají zpětnou vazbu a do konce semestru svou práci zformují do podoby vybroušených novinářských videí.

Výsledky mluví samy za sebe. Níže najdete výběr finálních projektů vytvořených v letošním ročníku. Vyprávění videí kurz. Tyto filmy představují tvrdou práci studentů, jejich kreativitu a odhodlání vyprávět skutečné příběhy, na kterých záleží.

Výsledek? Různorodá a promyšlená kolekce krátkých filmů o skutečných lidech, místech a problémech, které natočili studenti, z nichž mnozí před tímto kurzem nikdy nepoužívali profesionální vybavení. Tyto projekty odrážejí nejen technické dovednosti získané během semestru, ale také osobní vklad a novinářskou zvědavost, kterou každý student do své práce vnesl, a především to, jaké příběhy má zájem vyprávět a co pro něj má význam.

Ať už jde o objevování skrytých zákoutí Prahy, nebo o objasňování nevyřčených osobních příběhů, tito studentští filmaři se nejen učí, ale také tvoří. Díky praktickému procvičování a kritické zpětné vazbě přijali výzvu vizuální žurnalistiky a vytvořili díla, která jasně a procítěně odrážejí svět kolem nich.

Tohle je vyprávění příběhů v pohybu a je to teprve začátek.
