IWAP Cold War Course
Join us for an engaging and insightful course exclusively designed for International Women’s Association in Prague which offers a clear and accessible overview of world history after 1945, centered on the Cold War but set firmly in a global context.
While particular attention is given to communism, Eastern Europe, and Czechoslovakia, the course also addresses key developments in the United States, China, and other parts of the world. Across six sessions, it introduces the origins of the Cold War, the division of Europe, everyday life under communist rule, moments of crisis and reform, and the peaceful collapse of the Eastern Bloc in 1989, while consistently situating these themes within broader global processes.
International events and shifts in power are linked to local experience, showing how global history shaped politics, society, and personal lives across different regions.
The course is designed as a concise, discussion-friendly introduction rather than a detailed survey and is suitable for those seeking solid historical orientation without prior specialist knowledge.
